1. Who we are and what this document covers
Confidey is a service that supports personal relationships, available at confidey.com and in the iPhone and Android apps. This document explains which data we collect, why, who it is shared with, and what you can require from us.
It applies to every part of the service: website, apps, and communications by email and notification.
To talk about privacy, write to contact@confidey.com. Every request about your data is answered from that address.
2. What we collect
Account: name, email and password. The password is never stored as you typed it; we keep only an irreversible transformation of it.
Content you create: your conversations, the people and characters you add, the intentions and interactions you record, and the observations the service extracts from those conversations in order to remember what matters.
Service usage: how many messages you sent that day, how many voice minutes you used that month, your plan, and technical operating events. Those technical events record what happened, for example that a call started or that a limit was reached, and never what was said.
Device and access: device language, device type, IP address, and the approximate region derived from it, which we use to show prices in the right currency.
Payment: when you subscribe, processing is handled by the app store or by our payment processor. We neither receive nor store your card number.
3. What we use it for
Operating the service for you: keeping your account, remembering the context of your relationships, generating responses, and measuring your plan limits.
Improving the service: understanding where it fails and what has to change, from technical events and group statistics.
Talking to you: service notices, reminders you enabled, and messages about your subscription. Notifications never reveal the subject discussed in the app; you can also hide the preview in privacy settings.
Complying with the law and defending rights, when we are required to or when it is necessary to investigate fraud and abuse.
The legal bases are performance of the contract between you and Confidey, compliance with legal obligations, the legitimate interest in keeping the service safe and working, and your consent, in the case of the sensitive data covered in the next section.
4. Sensitive data: read this section
This section is highlighted because it deals with data the law classifies as sensitive, and consent here must be informed, specific and highlighted in order to be valid.
By using the service, you share information about your relationships, your emotional state and your personal life. This data is used to operate the service for you, to improve the quality of responses and develop new features, and to produce aggregate statistics.
Aggregate statistics are numbers about groups, never about you. They may be published or shared with third parties, including for a fee. That material contains no name, email, phone number, account identifier or excerpt of a conversation: only counts and proportions computed over a large number of people.
You may withdraw this consent at any time, in privacy settings, without losing access to the service. Withdrawal applies going forward; statistics already published cannot be undone, because they contain no individual data that would allow your contribution to be separated out.
We do not sell, rent or transfer data that identifies you individually.
5. How content is processed
To generate responses, the content of your conversations is processed by contracted technology providers, bound by contractual obligations of confidentiality and information security.
Responses are generated automatically and may contain errors. The service is a support for reflecting on and caring for your relationships, and does not replace professional health care.
The service keeps observations extracted from your conversations in order to remember what matters in future conversations. They stay attached to the relationship they belong to and are not used outside it. Deleting the relationship deletes those observations with it.
6. Who data is shared with
Infrastructure providers, which host the service and the database.
Technology providers that process content to generate responses, described in the previous section.
Payment processors and the app stores, to charge for and manage subscriptions.
Email and notification delivery services, to deliver the service's messages.
Usage measurement tools, which receive only technical events and counts, never conversation content.
Authorities, where there is a court order or legal obligation.
The people you invite do NOT receive your conversations or your notes. They receive only the invitation and what the service itself shows about the relationship between you.
7. How we protect it
The conversation between your device and our servers travels over an encrypted connection.
Your password is not stored: we keep only a cryptographic digest of it, with a high cost factor, which does not allow the original password to be recovered.
Backups are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before they leave the server. Without the key, the file says nothing.
Access to the database is restricted and logged.
You have your own controls: you can lock the app with a PIN and hide the notification preview, so nothing shows on your device's lock screen.
To be exact with you: conversation content is stored in the database in a form the service can read, because that is how it manages to remember the context of your relationships. It is protected by access control, not by encryption that would prevent Confidey itself from reading it. No system is completely secure, and we would rather you know that than promise otherwise.
8. How long we keep it
While your account exists, we keep the data needed for the service to work.
When you delete your account, we delete your personal data and your content. Records the law requires us to keep, such as tax and payment records, are kept for the legal period.
Aggregate statistics, which identify no one, remain.
9. Your rights
You may request access to your data, correction of anything wrong, export in a readable format, and deletion of your account and content.
You may withdraw consent for the processing of sensitive data, and object to processing based on legitimate interest.
Exporting your data and deleting your account are done by you, inside the app, in privacy settings. There is no need to ask or wait.
For any other request, write to contact@confidey.com. We answer within fifteen days.
If you are in Brazil, you may complain to the National Data Protection Authority. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, to your country's data protection authority.
10. Minimum age
Confidey is for people aged 16 or over. Between 16 and 18, use depends on the consent of a parent or guardian.
We do not knowingly collect data from children. If we learn that an account belongs to someone below the minimum age, it is closed and the data deleted.
12. International transfer
Our providers may process data outside your country. In those cases, the transfer is made with the safeguards required by applicable law, including standard contractual clauses.
13. Changes
When this document changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes are announced inside the service before they take effect.
Continuing to use Confidey after the notice means agreeing to the new text.
